[Xiang 3y11m; Qi 2y9m] Playing with Wii

It's time to change our old generation 1 Playstation. So, we have finally bought Wii. Hehe, paiseh, this Wii has been in market for so long and we were so outdated right? But all of us are still so excited about it and enjoy the games a lot.

Xiang playing bowling, he's good in this game

Trying to adapt

For those who know me well, I have moved in to my new house. New house, new environment, not only my kids, but we adults are also trying to adapt ourselves.

There's a lot of plus points about the new environment here, greatest one will be good security and prettier environment. My kids can cycle around the housing area with ease, large playgrounds for them and lots of place for them to play ball or fly kite.

The down points will be there aren't as many shops as in my previous house, no Jusco within 5 min drive (but there's a new Giant within 5 min drive), and not many food to our liking until now.

I'm not sure whether it's because of the hassle and tiredness of moving house, or because the back of my house is doing major renovation, all of us keep falling sick. Never before my kids have ulcers and sore-throat, this is the first time.

Tomorrow, we are going to plant grass and trees, hopefully it will 'clean' up the air a bit. This is my current muddy land, going to have to lay some piping under to 'drain' away the water.

Machines Boycott Me :(

Oh gosh, what a day I've been through!

Today's afternoon, I was shocked to find out that my 2 little kids have successfully spoiled my sister laptop! The screen keeps jumping up and down, up and down with all the blurry words which I can't even read the error message. To make it worse, this laptop isn't mine, it's my sister un-used laptop which I "borrow" all this while.

I have no choice but used my husband's ancient atuk laptop. Atuk laptop atuk speed

Then, the printer aka scanner also decided to take a break together with the laptop. OK, nvm, I have a backup printer. Then I realised that the atuk laptop didn't have the backup printer software and it's DVD-ROM already retired long long ago. Haiz~~~

So I went to computer shop, spent RM6.00 just to print 3 sheets of A4 size papers to signed and scanned them back in pdf file. The guy told me print 1 sheet RM1 and scan 1 sheet RM1 *sweating*

Then when I came back home at night, checking my fax machine. I couldn't believe my eyes that it's also stuck! Luckily, this one I managed to kao-tim, but have to asked the sender to re-fax the documents tomorrow.

I hope my sister laptop can be fixed, or else my plan of getting a new camera will be changed to getting a new laptop. What a day struggling with the machines.

I've got at least 10 sheets of paper to be printed tomorrow, and here goes another RM10 again!

Help! Semi-pro Camera

There's lots of experts here, therefore, I wanted to ask for your opinion.

I just know how to operate those digital camera, but I always wanted to get a better camera for snapping my kids' photos.

The lady at the electrical fair introduce me 2 semi-pro camera:

Canon model G12 RM1799, 10MP, 5X zoom, HS system, hybrid IS

Canon model SX30IS RM1599, 14.1MP, 35X zoom, 24mm wide angle

Lense & flash can be added to G12 while SX30IS couldn't. G12 is also much lighter and compact than SX30IS. Personally, I like SX30IS, cause it's all in 1 (I don't think I'll buy extra lense or flash) and it's cheaper.

Help help, do you think it's ok for a newbie like me to get a semi-pro camera and 'play' with it? If you know other models of semi-pro camera which you think it's better, can you recommend it to me?

Thank you so much!

[Xiang 3y7m] My "golden" teeth

Xiang: Look at my upper incisors! Nice?

Xiang till now has poor refleks. Whenever he fell down, his hands seems to be locked to his side. That is why he always got hurt on his forehead, lips and 2 upper incisors teeth. His 2 upper incisors teeth already turned black and they are shaking. Even Xiang already grown intoto habit of using the side incisors and canines teeth to bite and to tear food.

We wanted to bring him to dentist but I can't imagine if the dentist decided to extract both, so we kept on delaying the thought. I was hoping that he will lost his primary teeth sooner, and not to wait till 6 years old.

Reno: Sofa Hunt 1

I'd like to blog down my renovation details, for my future reference.

I've hunt for sofa for quite some time now. Last weekend, we have almost booked a set of sofa from Lorenzo.

Almost ..... because the sales person calculated wrong price, and the actual price was way too expensive for me.

Anyway, until now, brands to my liking are Lorenzo & Gucca. During the Homedeco fair, there's a Future & Hermann booth promoting leather sofa, so another brand added to my list.

I've just came back from Rozel Jalan Ampang. All the sofa sets there are so expensive. The salesman is very helpful though. There's 2 sets much to my liking, the seats & back supports are quite firm & hard, suitable to us who constantly has backache problem.

This is the cheapest set of leather sofa there, I think. 2+3: RM6,290

This is the one I like, very modern looking. 2+3: RM7,290!

Close up on 2 seater:

Well, after posting it here, I'm satisfied. I guess these are for my EYES only, not for my fat bottom to sit on. So my sofa hunting continues this weekend, planning to go Mid-Valley Lorenzo as well as the expo there.

[Qi 2y5m]: 40.1 DegC

22 July 2010

Yeah, my most hateful virus, is attacking Qi again. She has been feverish since 2 days ago. This morning 4.30am her hands & legs were so cold, I could not do anything but put on blanket for her. 1 hour later, her temperature shoot up to 40.1 DegC, gosh!!! She hates us putting wet hanky on her body, rejected putting cool-fever on her forehead and of course hates medicine inserted at her bottom.

X-box or Wii?

Our PS1 is half-way stepping into grave. However, my kids always having a good time with those car-racing, street-fighting and shooting games. That's why we are thinking of getting a new game device for our kids.

At first, I was thinking of buying PS3. The device itself is around RM1200 - that's ok. The game DVD is around RM200 - that's really NOT ok.

Then the sales persons intoduce us X-box, saying the picture quality is almost the same PS3 if we connected using HDMI cable.

Last week, we asked again at another shop, and we found out that X-box has little game titles for kids. Wii on the other hand has a wider titles. Each DVD only cost RM8. The only difficulty will be the controllers, as some games need to have 1 controller in each hand to play.

I'm wondering anyone own X-box or Wii here? Can you please give me your opinion on these 2? Which one is easier for the kids to play?

House Reno Progress

14 July 2010

My house finally going into renovation stage. I'm glad that I joined the community website, so much that I've learnt from there about the DOs & DONTs of renovations.

Current progress, hacking out the walls and this week start piling. Piling is extremely important and so far, my husband is happy with our contractor's job. As learnt from the community website, there's lots of contractors using short cut method, which means after they put the side beam / colums, they will brick up the walls and only build the top / horizontal beams. The accurate method is to construct the whole frame first which means side beam then top beam then only stick up the brick walls. I noticed most of the houses around my current area are using short-cut method too.

There's so many things that yet to buy, the important one are sinks and lightings because the contractor needs their size to do the table top and plaster ceiling holes. Oh not forgetting the air-cond and auto-gate. The less urgent one are bathroom accessories, sofa, dining table and mattress. Every weekend were occupied to survey the prices of such items. I'm looking forward to next week Malaysia Furniture & Finishing Fair. Hope that I could get a good bargain there.

[xiang 3y6m] 2nd Parents Teacher Meeting

13 July - 2nd Parents-Teacher Meeting

It's the same comments as per the first one:
1. Xiang is very very good in school. He's never a trouble-maker and always paying attention to teachers.
*wow, terbalik at home, always fighting with Qi. When I called him, usually after n-times and raising my voice only he will respond.*

2. His main problem will be reluctant to drink water.
*same old problem*

3. He's very very quiet when facing teacher. The teacher told me that she saw him talking to friends, but when the teacher ask him anything, he will give short & simple answer.
*I discussed this with the teacher, Xiang is scared to her. The teacher told me that one of the students, Noel's mom purposely authorised the teacher to spank Noel because he's out of control. Xiang saw the spanking and that's why Xiang is afraid of her.*

4. As for testing results, he scored 100% on all (Numbers, Chinese & English) while writing scored B.
*I think he just guess correctly in English, cause the vowel sounds is a bit confusing to him. Numbers & Chinese he's able to do. Anyway, not to be proud, because the teacher told me most of the students who paid attention in class scored 100% anyway.*

My curry chicken

Pai seh to say, I've never cooked curry chicken before. I saw my parents cooked it, I always felt it's so hard and tedious. I felt I'm not "qualified" for cooking that dish.

We went shopping over the weekend. The girl introduce me this:

Just need to fried the chicken & potatoes, then add in 1 pack of this and little bit water. Let it boil and all done. I did my first curry chicken yesterday. I think it tasted just ok, but it's not as fragent as my mom's.

[Qi 2y4m]: Milk time posture

Qi has a very particular habit, when she wanted to drink milk.

She will put 2 little bolster one on each of her side. She called the tiger print on her little bolster "cat-cat", and she will place the bolster so that the tiger is looking up at her. Then she will put her "duck-duck" long bolster beneth her legs. Finally her little pillow under her head, with the tiger print on top and the pillow case opening on her left hand side. So that she can put her fingers through the pillow case opening and twist it.

pillow & bolsters positioned like this

She won't take the milk bottle until every single on is in position. That's why when she starting to arrange her pillow and bolsters, we knew she's going to ask for milk.

Luckily she didn't insist this when she's away from home.

[Qi 2y4m] Wei Qi progress at 2 year 4 months

sorry for the blur image, it's the best I can do with my ah poh camera

My precious daughter Wei Qi is now 2 year 4 months, height 86cm and weight 12.5kg.

Her most strong ability will be talking. She can speak in complete sentences in Mandarine. Sometimes I can't believe those words she blurted out. At times, she speaks even better that her brother.

I wonder when I started her bad habit, it's my fault. She requested for sweets almost everyday. When we ignored her, she will ask for her alliance. Both kiddo will pull open the fridge door, stood on a stool and take down the candy box on their own. She also loves fishball, jelly, yakult, orange, pin-pin-mi-guo, barley water, pork, chicken and french fries. She hates vegetables, but luckily likes plain water.

Her favourite play stuff will be anything associate with water - wash hand, bath, swim. She loves soft toys especially cats, that's her favourite animal too. She loves swing and can swing forever. Favourite cartoon - hello kitty (a cat of course!). Loves to sing, sway and dance to children songs and chinese new year songs.

She hates her hair tied up, hence, we have her hair trimmed (wasted 1 full box of hair assesorries). She hates flowery cloths, and now insisting on choosing her own cloths to wear. She likes to wear underwear at home especially those printed with cats.

She can balance on 1 foot, jump and run, even though moved in zig-zag and unbalance way, she seldom fell down. She's already fully toilet train day & night months ago, performing extremely well whereby she only had 1 accident until now.

She recognises A~Z and 1~9. She can count actual objects up to 5. However, she's bad with colors, always mixing them up.

She has a very strong character, will fight furiously with her brother. Sometimes at playground, she even ordered the older kids to line up behind her if being cut Q. She's not afraid of strangers and she got a out-going character. However, due to her strong character, a very bad habit of hers will be throwing tantrum and kicking her legs when her wish is denied.

Oh, not forgetting her big voice, really loud and noisy, but I love it.

[Xiang 3y5m] His first 4yo field trip - KLCC Aquarium

09 April 2010

Organised by Xiang's kindy, a half day trip to KLCC Aquarium. I think he's more excited about riding the big yellow bus rather than seeing the fish. To his disappointment, we rode on tourist bus.

He and his binocular - a gift from a friend.

The twin tower, he remembered the name easily, thanks to one of his favourite cartoon Dora.

Once we reached KLCC, we first proceeded to the park for our branch.

The visiting was just ok. Xiang loved those big fish, sharks and the diver who kept waving to him.

Colonic Diverticular Disease

This morning, I received a call from my father's new doctor (his 3rd one, introduced by a very dear friend of mine).

Dr. Wong "I think I know what's wrong with your father, when you reached hospital, give me a call and I'll explain to you."

Me: "ok, will go there and call you"

After I hung up the phone, I was so so scared and worried. I asked my sister to accompany me (luckily, she's not working today).

Actually it's a good news. My father got Colonic Diverticular Disease. After months or nearly 1 year, finally a doctor can tell us CLEARLY what's wrong. My father need NOT go through surgery, but just need to control his diet. If there's no constipation, then most of the time the pain won't attack him again. Sounds simple, isn't it, but why can't the doctors detected and told us earlier???

Thinking back, I can't help "salute" those so called specialist doctors! Not 1 but 3!!!

1st doctor - Dr. A, a gastroenterologist- told my father there's tiny "holes" in my father's colon, but there's nothing to worried about. That's all he said to my father! Every time my father in pain, he just gave antibiotics and some constipation and did not bother to explain why. Did not bother!!! Because he's famous. He got lots of patients, he didn't bother to tell my father what to do to prevent all this, put my father in grey clouds wondering why he kept on getting stomach pain.

2nd doctor - Dr. B, a surgeon - This one my father saw when he admitted into hospital emergency on November 2009 (I can say this is tip-top hospital in my area). He did not check back my father's previous records carefully. He thinks there's something wrong with appendix. He actually bought a friend-gastroenterologist with him to check on my father, his friend just used his hands and fingers to press my father's stomach and claimed nothing wrong. This time when my father admitted again few days ago, he even suggested my father to remove his appendix, at the same time, he can also "look" inside my father's stomach to find anything wrong. A big BUT here is the scan shows that my father's appendix is NORMAL, NOTHING WRONG!!!

I objected to this strongly and one my father's friend also asked him NOT to do it. I called my dear friend, who is a doctor herself. She's so helpful that she called up her squad of doctor friends and introduce me this 3rd doctor - Dr. Wong a gastroenterologist, who is coincidently in the same hospital as my father is staying.

Dr. Wong is so detailed and careful, asking every single records and scan results my father had. He told us that at one look, he knew why my father keep on getting stomach pain. Same as Dr. A, there's "hole" or "lump" in my father's colon. Difference is he didn't tell us "never mind" and explained to us in details!!! He said further scan or surgery in NOT necessary. Most important, he taught us a way to prevent it and lessen the chances of pain attack.

We are so relief and happy to hear the result. I can see that my father is happier and more energetic than yesterday. It's so sad to see him at such condition, not only in pain, but like beaten and don't know what to do next.

At the same time, I do feel angry towards the so called specialist doctors! One did not bother to spent time EXPLAINING, one did not bother to transfer my father to another doctor and insist on operating my father, one just use his hands to press and check as if he had a scanner in his hand and mind! Why???? Because of money they risk the patients life????

Worry part 2~

16 March 2010

Never wanted to be a part 2 in this, but happened this morning again.

My father since his last stomach pain ( blog Worry~ ), there's no sign of pain. We asked him to check up in KL, but he rejected and just go for regular checkup at Ipoh Specialist Hospital.

This morning the pain started abruptly and intensed. All the cold sweats broke out and he couldn't walk, sit or lay in bed properly. He was admitted immediately after seeing the specialist.

Scan result, to everyone worried, again NOTHING WRONG. He's give antibiotics now until Friday, after which we planned to fetch him to KL SJMC. We hope at that time his pain is reduced so that he could take the 3 hour travelling.

Anyone here can recommend me good doctors or hospitals?

Popular Sales ; Motor Skills Toys

Tired, just came back from Summit USJ. As informed by Nicole, there's Popular Sales. Before I reached there, I imagined it to be as great as last time.

Well, I got a bad feeling when it's not held in 4th floor as it used to be. The size is like 10 times smaller than last time. Anyway, I did grab some books, mainly are 70% books. I got lucky in 2 books, which are supposed to be 20% as labeled at the book shelf, but informed by casher it's actually 90% & 50%!!! ^_^

I actually don't feel anything about the book sales. I was actually excited to see a educational toy shop there, which sell lots of motor skills toys just like the one Xiang got in kindergarten. I've searched many places for them before, but just couldn't find them.

Sorry, my camera now on strike, so I just paste the link here just for sharing:

Chain linker - improve fingers strength (this actually recommended by Xiang's teacher, but I can't find them elsewhere) http://www.usleducation.com/product_info.php/products_id/414

Nuts & bolts - improve motor skill, learn shapes & colors as the kids need to find the matching nut & bolt in order to put them together. http://www.usleducation.com/product_info.php/products_id/392

Well, just for sharing to those who are interested. Beside Summit USJ, another shop (HQ) is at Kajang. (can't believe I stayed so nearby but never heard about it!!!)

[Xiang 3y2m] Sharing - how to motivate your kids to do homework

I have been browsing internet, searching on tips to get Xiang's homeworks done. The power of internet, and I got some useful tips to make me re-think over my strategy.

Just let me share some with you if you are interested to know. Black texts are my thoughts and red text are I copied from How to Motivate Your Kids to Do Homework
(without having a nervous breakdown yourself)
*that describe me!!!!*

By Chick Moorman and Thomas Haller

3 Law of Homeworks:

1. Most children do not like to do homework.

*I love the following statement!* "Give up your desire to have them like it. Focus on getting them to do it."

2. You cannot make anyone do it.

You can not make your child learn. You cannot make him hold a certain attitude. You cannot make him move his pencil.

*Very true!!!!*

3. It's their Problem.

Their pencils have to move. Their brains need to engage. Their bottoms need to be in the chair. Too many parents see homework as the parent's problem. So they create ultimatums, scream and shout, threaten, bribe, scold, and withhold privileges. Have you noticed that most of these tactics do not work? *yup, not only not working, I'm tired out as well!*

Our responsibility as parents is to provide our children with an opportunity to do homework. Our job is to provide structure, to create the system. The child's job is to use the system.

It hits me like a 'boooom!!!!' Right, my responsibility is to create a studying system for Xiang!!!! This article really motivates and inspired me.

There's 8 tips, but it wil be lengthy if I post it all up, just hop over if you wanted to read it. I myself find it useful and easy to follow of all the others resources.

[Xiang 3y1m; Qi 2y] Short update

It has been 2 weeks again, since I last update my blog. Things are not going good though, my handycam broke down, my son's homework and someone took all the money in my car (we are careless, we left the car unlocked) just outside my house.

Chinese new year was so-so, hot weather and I can't recall doing anything special. Guess that Xiang had such great time that he cried and reluctant to go back to school, telling us that he's scared of the teacher and scared of going to school. It's the first time that his daddy need to pull and drag this little fella into the school. We were so worried that we met up with his teacher & kindy's supervisor. The teacher told me he's very well behave in class, actually he's very quiet in class. She told me she only scold him for not drinking his water and that's all. This week he's doing great, went to school willingly, biding us bye-bye.

Actually I'm feeling fatigue and as if all my energy gone in my body. I felt like I'm the worst mom in the world as what I've done to Xiang for over the few days. I really got defeated by his homework, and I have no clue how to teach him. I've screamed at him, and even threw stuffs on floor. Xiang dislike doing homeworks, it's so hard to keep him sit up straight and hold the pencil properly. He's like dreaming and lost in thoughts when we couched him. Only after I scold him hard, or left him alone in room crying, then only he'll concentrate to his homeworks. Gosh!!! I talked to him softly numerous time that we don't like to scold him, that we wanted to teach him patiently but he gotta cooperate with us. No use of all these soft-talks. He'll only concentrate and take us seriously after he saw us fuming. I've been teaching my niece last time and I saw with my own eyes how others teach their kids, it has never been so so so hard!!!

Qi has her birthday celebrations 3 times this year. Once in my hometown, a simple celebrations but can see she smiled happily when we sang her birthday song. Second one in her school, I won't do that again next year if Qi didn't request for it. Coz it's just so "dicipline" since it's in school. She even not willing to cut the cake. 3rd time on the actual date at home. And we took her to Genting for a one day trip, she loved all the rides there.

Oh, not forgetting the presents from the lovely moms here. Caroline, thank you for the fabulous gift. It's just so kind of you. Thank you Alyse for the presents, that's a big parcel! Thank you Leann for the birthday wishes, my phone was out of credit and can't thank you back via sms.

So much writing, really no more energy now. Hope I can keep this blog going...

Hot hot Chinese New Year!

I'm melting here! My body never stayed more than 5 minutes free-of-sweat even just stepped out from bath! It's as if the whole house turned into sauna room (no air-cond here, sadly). Plus those hateful mossies who never seems to fear any repellants keep on buzzing my 2 little kids especially Xiang. My gastric is attacking me again. Besides that, I'm fine here ^_^

Anyway, my intention of posting is to wish everyone of my friends here a prosperous & a very happy Chinese New Year!

Qi (1y11m): My DNA report

Qi got this My DNA test for free when I enrolled her to the kindergarten. Last Saturday we got the report back as well as the counselling session.

In case if you ask, My DNA test is a dermatoglyphics code test, which based on 10 finger prints, which was said to be able to analyse one's innate capability; this includes the inborn learning style and brain function. (said to be 95% accurate)

In conclusion of Qi's report:

1. She is strong in logical analysis, speech, 3D dimension. (The counselor said that this means that her maths, science will be strong, she could do 3D designing and will be good in giving speech)

2. She is poor in sports involving both hands & both legs, doesn't appreciates art or pretty photos. (means that she can't dance, swim, draw well, definately not a good photographer and worse, will have bad taste in clothing! :( :( :(

3. Her chances of day dreaming and think-only-no-action is low. (well, I definately agree, coz when I speaks to her, she will immediately response and unlike her slow-motion brother!)

4. She's not a forgetful person. (funny is when the counselor said this, my husband whispered to me and said he difinately will score high marks in this coz he always seems to misplace things!)

5. She's be a practical person rather than emotional person - means will love $$$, won't like to hear those flowery-empty-promises ^_^

6. Main learning style (motive or thinking): Thinking type, likes to analyse & think.

7. Aided learning style (do, listen, see): Listening type, again mentioned that should expose her more to language and she'll be superb in that. So at the same time, speech will also hurt her most and the counselor asked us to especially careful when speaking to her.

The analysis tells that the most useful lessons for her will be mental arithmatics, maths & science games, language, public speaking.

It's good to get such report actually, not that we will 100% following it. I will still let her try those dance classes (ballet!!!) if possible, and if she fails then I know that it's the gene to blame (kekekeke...). I have been not so sure about mental arithmatics classes but now, think I will let Qi have a try and see.

Next is I wonder I should dig my purse and let Xiang do the test ... hmm, most probably will after this few weeks "battle" with him. I will write about the "battle" in my next one.
