Field trip: LRT ride + Zoo Negara
Date: 30 April 2009, 8.30am ~ 3pm
The day before ~~~
I’ve packed a backpack for Xiang’s tomorrow field trip: change of clothes, Xiang’s water tumbler, my water tumbler, hanky (3), diaper, snacks, handycam, umbrella, fan, hot & warm water for making milk, milk powder & milk bottle. It was so heavy! I wonder I could carry all that till 3pm and what if Xiang asked me to “bao bao”!? Finally, we’ve decided not to bring the hot & warm water for making milk, milk powder & milk bottle, hoping that he will not request for it.
Field trip day!
First thing Xiang said after woke up was: “我要去zoo!” (I want to go to zoo!). He’s looking forward to it and so am I!
Reached the school at 8.30am, lining up and briefing from the headmaster - main point is those like us (parents going together) must keep an eye on our children since the other teachers need to concentrate on others going-alone-children. Approximately 2~3 teachers bringing a group of 10~12 children. The teachers are very dedicated to this event, some even asked their grown-up children & husbands to help out. This is the first I saw D Cheers – “yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah! Su~~~Per~~~Bee~~~” haha, cute!
When we made our moved heading towards the gate, Xiang suddenly cried: “不要去school,我要去zoo~~~” hahahaha, he’s used to lining up when going inside the classroom, that’s why he misunderstood ^_^
This was the first time Xiang boarded a bus! “Bus” is one of his first words, but I’ve never took him on a ride before. He enjoyed it very much and also the hotdog bread (one of his favorite actually) given by the teacher. Along the way, 3 children volunteered to sing, and to my surprise, all 3 year old class. Super good singer even to adults’ ears!
First stop was the LRT station, we waited for around 15 min before going in and a briefing from the Putra Line staff. We parents not missing the chance of snapping photos with the child’s friends! A gal was particular caring for Xiang, even wiped his saliva away using his bib! Hahaha, Xiang has a jiejie in class ^_^
The train ride took around 20 minutes, stopping 2 stops. Later only we found out that there’s a communication problem between the kindergarten and Putra Line because we were supposed to have the train all by ourselves without stopping. No problem at all anyway. Xiang was excited as well, looking out of the window, commenting that the train was very high and fast. He learned a new word – LRT and saw with his own eyes how does a train looks like.
After the LRT ride, we went on board of bus again to the Zoo. When we finally reached the Zoo, it’s already 11.30am! Everyone was sweating but once reaching the zoo, the children all got excited again. The kindergarten’s arrangement was good, they knew that we could not walk much under the hot sun, and so arranged a ride in the tram. If you were a visitor on that day, you will hear the childish voices shouting “Giraffe!!! Elephant!!! Deer!!! Lion!!! Flamingo!!! And all the wahs & ooohs from the 7 trams carrying children & adults. The tram ride was very relaxing and with nice breeze blowing on face. It’s a different experience for both xiang & me since we did not sit on the tram last time.
After that, we walked a short distance to “The Wild” fast-food restaurant. I was at first taken back by why the kindergarten would arrange fast food for kid’s outing, but I guess not much choice in the zoo. They also cleverly put children’s milo in a pepsi-printed-cup and adult’s pepsi in milo-printed cup! The lunch for the kids was nuggets, fries & milo while adults was 2 piece chicken, 1 burger, fries & pepsi. There were some musical rides in the restaurant, I was worried that Xiang might want to go on the ride before his lunch at first. Surprisingly, he sat quietly on his chair and finished most of the nuggets. Hungry I guess. Upon finishing lunch, seeing his pity look (sat on the ride without putting money, drooling at other kids’ moving rides), I exchanged some coins for him. 50 cents per ride, cheap!
Afterwards, we walked a short distance to children’s world. There are some friendly animals there – baby horse, baby goats, baby cow, rabbits and miniature horses! All touchable!
The teachers not forgetting their “nature” instinct: ”Children, H says ……” / “G says ……” / “C says ….”
Kids “huh … huh … huh …” / “ge … ge… ge …” / “keh … keh… keh… “
Teachers :”good good good, so that’s horse, goat and cow!”,
Kids “horse!!!!” / “goat!!!” / “cow!!! “
Teachers smiling and proud include us parents ^_^. At this point, all my tiredness gone, seeing Xiang able to answer too! Hahaha, but the teachers did comment before that he’s good in this.
We didn’t came here last time, as it was raining and we rushed home at that time. Xiang was brave enough to touch and pad the horse’ hare, at the same time giggling and having a good time. Then we went to see a monkey which showing off his swinging skills, making all the kids OHHHH, laughing and clapping. Our last animal before we said goodbye to the zoo was the hippopotamus. 3 giant and lazy animals, hiding themselves inside the water.
When we waited for the other group of kids to arrive, Xiang was already sleeping on my shoulder. A tired but very happy day for him. And me too! Xiang was behaving so great, walking all by himself, eating well, following the crowd and no dangerous acts from him. A very superb arrangement from the kindergarten & committed teachers, taking 5 buses of children & adults, all came home with tired body and uplifted spirit at 3pm. I was so glad that I joined this field trip, so much I’ve earn – being together with Xiang for his first field trip, seeing his great little school friends and knowing some great parents!
